The forum software used to have an optional chatroom built in and usable for an additional cost. However, they removed the facility due to lack of use/support.

The forum software therefore cannot have a chatroom facility. There are third party chat rooms that can be used within the forum, but there won't be true/proper integration and there will be an additional cost. Given the difficulties and cost, interest would have to be substantial to make it worth while.

Would we be allowed to post links to suitable off site chatrooms?

Or would that be deemed as being disrespectful to admins here?

We're quite happy for you to post links to chatrooms, but we have to emphasise,

that we CAN'T endorse or support any of the chat rooms themselves.

Thank you for having the courtesy to ask first 😉

I heard somewhere a Visi or G-Chatroom is $199 to open (An unlimited capacity chatroom as opposed to, say, a fifty user capacity chatroom) & after the purchase price, it is $15 (around £10.50 at current exchange rates) monthly rental

The rates might be different now but when a friend ran a chatroom those were the costs

There are cheaper types of chatroom such as a Pro Boards hosted chatroom

And then there are the IRL chatrooms which are free; but they are basic, not having cam & mike feature

I remember when the site had a chatroom some years ago. It wasn't used all that much back then ( in the days when chatrooms were popular ).

Any such cost to the forum would be hard to justify and to be fair if I chat to any friends here I tend to use the personal messaging function which does the job quite well.

all we need is a basic chatroom   when the atfotf forum had chatroom there was no cam and mike  feature and
the chatroom was always full think back then there was a 25 people limit at one time

Sorry, but The Team's position is the same as it was in June.

"Interest would have to be substantial" and it's very clear from this thread that there is virtually no interest at all. (And that's before we consider the practical and cost implications!)

Doesn't look like there is ever any input or interest when the admin speak on here.
