Please share so we can discuss and implement if it's a workable idea. This wasn't a course of action we took lightly, but was felt necessary to ensure the future availability of the forum. It has nothing to do with where you are from and frankly I'm insulted by the suggestion. The rides list is available to those who have contributed towards it, submit reports or support the forum financially, which is as little as £5 a year. If you don't fit the criteria and aren't willing to part with £5 - the forum isnt even worth that - then I too am disappointed! Link to comment

I’m wondering if some flexibility could be considered in this type of situation. For someone in Marcs position it would be very difficult to contribute to either the reports or rides list with him living in another country. However Marc’s contribution to the quality and volume of European photos on the forum could be recognised in this instance. 😁 On another note it does surprise me that people don’t even have a quick scan read of the topic before asking questions. It’s only two pages! 😜 Edited January 17, 2018 by Ian Cant 2 Link to comment

I have also meant to contribute to it but never done so- this topic was a good reminder that I need to do so. My immediate problem is with PayPal and issues I have using them to pay for anything (passwords and such dull things-they can be very unhelpful). As soon as I can sort this another supporter will on side-there is not any other resource on the net such as this. Bill and his team have built what I feel is a fantastic central resource and there is nothing else that comes close. I personally cannot stand Facebook and all the false drama, rows and fake news that comes with it. For that reason I never have and never will be a member. For those that feel they can gain the information they need free of charge there, please carry on and do what you feel is right. I respect people have different preferences but what bugs me is when people post so much on Facebook and moan that this site has less content added than it did a while ago. Have Facebook if you must but if you are a member here then support this site as well. For me the forum is worth every penny and the reasons for that are not just the valuable information, photos, reports and archives but the fact that there are ground rules to protect the integrity of what is here and our reputation. We don't deal in rumours, are encouraged to be respectful, not to start arguments, not to discuss inappropriate matters and we have a vision to foster good relations with showmen and generally promote the fairground industry. This is the sort of enthusiast platform I personally would wish to be associated with rather than an unmoderated free for all such as Facebook. I also like to know that when I read that showmen X has sold his Waltzer to Showmen Y I can be assured that what I am reading is correct. Whilst I am aware that contributing to reports will award access to the rides list, I am also aware that I contribute a small amount of reports per year. For that reason and those listed above, I am happy to contribute financially and I also feel that my money buys me a lot of enjoyment viewing the site. Whilst I respect that it is an individual choice where to spend money, look at it this way, I spend money each year on a World's Fair subscription, FAGB membership, photo printing of the various fairs I visit, petrol costs driving to said fairs, numerous purchases on models and bits to build the models, new fairground book publications that interest me, DVD's the list goes on. So a little extra to help out the forum is not unreasonable. One major thing I forgot to add is as an enthusiast I spend a lot of money whilst actually at the fairs I visit and always make a point of supporting stalls and kiosks whilst there. So if you are trying to decide whether to part with some cash for the forum think of it like spending money on a few rides at the fair but you get to have that enjoyment for twelve whole months. This practice breaks the golden internet rule "What's online stays online" for obvious reasons Talking of which, I was once forced into a corner, without any other choice but to break this rule That's how my partner & I met Anyway back to topic The minimum paid membership is a fiver annually, so you could look at it as buying Bill an annual thank-you pint of beer (or a drink of his choice) Just realised; the gold & platinum membership fee's really only apply to fair/showmen, who wish to advertise sale of fair rides; for example. So for all us fair ride geeks, like me, a fiver is a drop in the ocean; a drink for Bill Edited January 24, 2018 by Nick Attwell Additional Input Link to comment

Not at any point did I state that facebook was the place to be because the information was better, nor did I say the information present on the forum was available on facebook for free in fact I said just the opposite, I said that facebook had some excellent stuff posted that you don't find on the forum, this quite obviously applies the other way around also. Fair do's, if false rumours is your bag its the place to be but I have no interest in that, as I clearly stated I was talking from the perspective of photography and I stand by it, there are some absolutely phenomenal photo's on the facebook groups from some of the real heavy weight enthusiasts in our hobby and you don't see them here on the forum, it's a fact, as you say, you aren't a member so you wouldn't know and take my word for it its must have resource, the good stuff far outweighs the drama and he says she says. Secondly, as somebody who has used this forum since 1999 It's plain to see it's been hit hard by facebook, the quality of posts hasn't deteriorated but the amount of traffic has and its sad to be honest but it's a fact, it's not even relevant really, just a simple observation I was stating my personal views on the matter in general whilst also stating that although Facebook is not something that appeals to me personally, I do respect that for some it does appeal to them. I also did not "cry" about anything but was simply trying to state my own reasons for supporting the forum and hopefully encourage others to consider it. However, I did also point out that each of us has a choice on how we spend our own money and that is something which I also respect. 2 Link to comment

My sentiments exactly Bill You must surely wonder Bill, why you bother to provide, out of your own pocket, such an awesome font (forum) of fair ground/circus knowledge Perhaps if you were to restrict more than the ride list Bill; that would filter out the ingrat's Oh; and also for those ingrat's, time limited membership of say a few months might be an idea 1 Link to comment
