Coming Events - CHANGES!

Dear All

Mike Willis has done a fantastic job in compiling, maintaining and updating the Coming Events. It is a tedious, time consuming job. I am sure you will agree that Mike has done more than his fair share, and I would like to thank him for all his efforts.

After consultation with the Moderator Team, and a generous offer of help from Gary Witcomb, we now have a workable solution.

We will continue to use the current database - I've looked at forum based solution and off-site databases, but nothing is as easy and versatile as the current database. The tedious part is the initial data entry. It is not something I was willing to take on, and in fairness it is too much for one person. So, we are changing it to a "community" project.

Members will be encouraged to enter the details of events they know about. I have updated the access permissions so members can now enter events.

This solution will only work if:-

1) Members actually add events they know about and

2) They take some care in ensuring the details are correct

Whilst I don't want to put people off entering events, it's important to consider that someone may travel to an event YOU have entered. If the details are wrong, YOU could be responsible for sending them on a wild goose chase. We have a notice advising that events are changed, cancelled or postponed, but we would still like the list to be accurate.

Gary has generously offered to help Moderate the Coming Events. He has the access required to check, edit and delete to ensure the events list is the best we can get.

If you find an entry that you can add to or correct please use the comment box below the event and we will update it.

From this point on, the Coming Events list will only be as good as the information the members supply. Neither Gary or I have the time or the desire to trawl the Internet, Facebook and Publications for events. It will be down to YOU to supply the information!!!!!

When you add events, please complete as many details as you can. I would suggest the bare minimum would be Start Date, End Date and Location. If you can Google a Post Code, so much the better

I appreciate that this solution isn't as good as having all the work done for you, but given the position we are in at the moment, I think this is a good compromise.

Please make it work - Add the Events YOU know about!

I have added a few to get us started and will continue to do so as and when Information becomes available, it is very straight forward to do, you just have to fill a few boxes in, Like Bill has stated above, enter as much Accurate information as you have but don't be put off entering an event if say you don't know the lessee Name or have a postcode

I believe the coming events section is an Important part to our Hobby, that's why I was happy to help with it and with your Support we can make this work

I look forward to the 1st Member to Add an Event and don't worry about making the odd error we are all human

Should anyone see an error in the coming events please let us know so we can correct it

I've now deleted all the topics in the "Unlisted Coming Events" Forum and redirected the link to the Coming Events Database

Please add any unlisted Coming Events to the database direct.

May I remind Forum Members that they can now directly input events themselves into the coming Events, its Easy to do, Takes just a few minutes, and your support would be gratefully received,

There is only so much I can do and have done far more that I expected, spending many hours processing events from various sources and the direct input from members has been Disappointingly low since the changes, I am hoping now that the season is up and running, that Members will start to input events themselves from there local areas using there local knowledge for the benefit of all

The Coming Events Section Needs Supporting as I Believe its an Important Part Of Our Hobby and with Members Participation we can make this a very useful resource as it has been in the past, so please support it / Share your information / And above all Support Our Showmen

If You Know Of An Event Not Listed, Please Share This Information By Adding To The Coming Events List, So That All Forum Member Get The Chance To Visit The Event If They Wish, I Have Noticed Recently Information / Fair Reports / Photo Treads Are Being Added To The Forum Which Is Great, But Members are Not Adding The Event To Coming Events (Prior to the finish of the event)
