That's the way the software works and I can't change it. However, I obviously use the site a little differently and for me it's a complete non-issue I always access the site via the "unread content" link - I look at what I want to see and then click the "Mark site read" link so that all the topics I don't want to read are marked as read. May not be an ideal solution, but works for me. Link to comment
